Casola in Lunigiana
The medieval mountain village Casola in the high dale of Aulella is located between the Apuanian Alps and the Appennin. It is overlooked by the Pizzo d1⁄4Uccello (m1781) and the Monte Tondo (m 1785). As a walled village, Casola was a strategic defence point of the near by castles in Regnano and Codiponte.
Because of diverse conflicts, Casola came to be under different reign. First it belonged to the family Maaspina of Veruccola, later it changed to be governed by the Luccanians and finally it belonged to the Florence Republic and the earls of Medici.
